Freddie J Watts basks in duality as glam rock meets smouldering psychedelia on new single 'Entwined'. The five minute track from the Brighton alt-folk artist is a work of post-pandemic contemplation. In Watts’ own words, “'Entwined' is intended to invite listeners to reflect on how they relate to one another and the inherent duality of the world we live in.” In the process, it seeks to burrow into the conceptualisation of time. Watts defies linearity with a loose structure of zappy, baroque verses which ebb into trancelike interludes, tied together with a mesmerising outro led by serpentine flute movements. Featuring contributions from Ella Oona Russell and Nina Winderlind of The New Eves, it feels as though a surrealist folk movement is on the rise. Watts’ ‘Entwined’ is a beguiling offering, piquing curiosity for what to expect of his forthcoming debut EP, At Every Turn. -Kayla Sandiford
